Shelby American has taken the wraps off the 2019 Shelby GT ahead of its debut at the Woodward Dream Cruise.
Based on the Ford Mustang GT, the model features a unique exterior with a Shelby-branded grille, a “deep draw” hood and sportier side skirts. The car has also been equipped with a rear spoiler, body stripes and 20-inch wheels.
Interior changes are limited, but drivers will find an individually numbered dash plaque and embroidered floor mats. Customers can also order a short-throw shifter and a leather interior package.
On the performance front, the Shelby GT has new springs and sway bars sourced from Ford Performance. Other highlights include a Borla cat-back exhaust system and caster camber plates.
Power is provided by a familiar 5.0-liter V8 engine, but Shelby says the model has “additional horsepower and torque” thanks to the new exhaust system. The company didn’t go into specifics, but said the car should have around 480 hp (358 kW / 486 PS).
Buyers looking for something more powerful can order an optional Ford Performance supercharger. It will enable the engine to produce more than 700 hp (522 kW / 710 PS).
Regardless of whether the engine is supercharged or naturally aspirated, it can be connected to a six-speed manual or a ten-speed automatic transmission.
Besides the standard GT, Shelby will offer a heritage-inspired GT-H. It costs $5,000 more than the standard model and features illuminated door sill plates as well as a black and gold or white and gold exterior. The GT-H also comes equipped with front struts and rear shocks from Ford Performance.
Another notable option is the Shelby heavy duty package. It adds performance half-shafts, an upgraded coolant tank and an “extreme” radiator.
The 2019 Shelby GT starts at $61,345 and the model will be available at “select dealers in North America and mod shops worldwide.”
