This one-off VW Atlas SUV features greater performance, both on and off road. Tuner APR added not just more power, but also custom suspension components in order to make this a more capable off-roader.
Under the hood lies a 2.0-liter TSI engine, which has seen its 235 HP (238 PS) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) outputs raised to 350 HP (354 PS) and 350 lb-ft (474 Nm) of torque. The tuner accomplished this by installing a factory IS38 turbocharger from the VW Golf R.
Other features include the ECU upgrade, carbon fiber intake system, cast racing DP exhaust system, turbo inlet pipe, turbo muffler delete and a custom-built catback exhaust system. There is also a 6-piston 350 mm (13.7 in) Performance Brake upgrade, giving this SUV more stopping power.
“We were thrilled to have the opportunity to work on this project to bring the Atlas 2.0T to the next level,” said APR CEO, Mitch Williams. “With 350 horsepower and 350-pound feet of torque we’ve surpassed the output from even the larger V6 engine and we’re working to push the envelope even further in the future. The combination of custom hardware and equipment from our current product line really transformed the Atlas’ performance.”
APR used new billet suspension components to lift the Atlas an extra 1.5 inches (3.8 cm), which in turn provided sufficient room for the Toyo Open Country tires, featuring 20-inch light-weight forged wheels, illuminated via well/rock lights placed beneath the vehicle. Last but not least is the custom vinyl wrap, designed by the tuner and installed by Digital Precision in Alpharetta, Georgia.
According to APR, while this Atlas represents a one-off project, the company is considering building a lineup of performance products for VW’s SUV.
