Whenever you see any type of wildlife crossing the road ahead of you, unless you’re not able to avoid impact in a completely safe manner, it’s best to stop, as in, it’s the right thing to do.
The driver of this Audi actually did a good thing, even though he or she may not have realized that by stopping, they would be exposing their car to the trailing pickup truck, whose driver was clearly not paying enough attention.
Of course, if they actually anticipated the impact and stopped anyway, then what they did is even more commendable. However, seen as how the Audi did have a little bit of time to quickly accelerate immediately after coming to a halt (yet didn’t do so), we’re inclined to say that the driver wasn’t aware of how close that truck was.
Fortunately, the ducks made it across the road safely and hopefully the parties involved in the crash weren’t seriously injured. This type of impact can easily result in whiplash for those who get rear-ended, which is why in these types of scenarios, it’s best to keep one eye on the road ahead and the other on the rear-view mirror, so to speak.
Let’s just hope that this experience doesn’t act as a deterrent for the driver of the Audi if they’re ever put in this situation again. Not stopping, or not attempting to avoid hitting something is pretty inexcusable, especially at low speeds.
