Fossil will begin selling BMW-branded smartwatches next year, part of a long-term deal that will end in 2023. The smartwatches will be sold in more than 4,000 BMW retail channels as well as through Fossil’s extensive global sales network.
While the first collection will drop next year, even more watch models are to follow further down the road. Unfortunately, there’s no telling how much these wearable devices will cost as of right now.
“BMW is one of the most iconic brands in the world. We look forward to bringing our watch design expertise and smartwatch capabilities to BMW enthusiasts around the world,” stated Fossil chairman and CEO, Kosta Kartsotis.
The reason why the German automaker chose Fossil with regards to this global licensing agreement might have something to do with the latter’s massive growth, as the fashion company’s shares have went up more than 215% for the year.
BMW fans who would rather not wait until 2019, can already purchase BMW-branded wearables, including ones built in collaboration with ICE Watch. However, all of those models are just fashion accessories and don’t offer any “smart” capabilities.
A good example of another automaker selling their own smartwatch is Porsche, with their Porsche Design Huawei timepiece, boasting a 1.2 inch (3.05 cm) display and 390 x 390 pixel resolution.
