Ford is a presenting sponsor of this year’s Woodward Dream Cruise and the automaker has announced plans to unveil a new model at this year’s event.

The company was tight-lipped on specifics, but the mysterious vehicle will be unveiled on August 16st at 10 am EST. That isn’t much to go on, but the car is likely some variation of the Mustang as virtually every media event is Mustang related.

This naturally breeds speculation about the possible unveiling of the Mustang Shelby GT 500, but that seems like a long shot. Instead, we can probably expect a new special edition. This is more in keeping with the event which has seen low-key introductions of special editions such as the Chrysler PT Dream Cruiser Series 5.

While most of this year’s event is media-centric, Ford expects as many as 1,000 Mustangs to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Mustang Alley. This will occur on Saturday, August 18th at the corner of Woodward and 9 Mile.

The company will also be displaying the first and 10th million Mustang as well as hosting a screening of Bullitt at a unique drive-in theater. Other events include a Mustang Bullitt parade, the handover of the Eagle Squadron Mustang GT and the unveiling of a special Kona Blue Mustang Bullitt. The latter model will be raffled off in November with proceeds benefiting the JDRF which is a global organization funding type 1 diabetes research.

Furthermore, Ford will have a family fun zone with crossovers and SUVs at Pioneer Park in Royal Oak. A number of owners clubs will also be meeting on August 18th at Pleasant Ridge Park.

Update: It appears the model will be the Mustang Cobra Jet
