The Grand Tour is expected to return in November, but this year’s season will be unique as Amazon is releasing The Grand Tour Game.
Set to become available for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, The Grand Tour Game promises to transport players to “exotic locations where they’ll drive the world’s most interesting cars and participate in the show’s outrageous challenges.”
While that sounds pretty typical, the game is heavily influenced by the third season of The Grand Tour and new “episodes” of the game will be released every week. Each episode will echo the one shown on Amazon Prime and feature the same locations and cars as the streaming program.
This dual setup extends even further as Amazon says there will be “seamless transitions from clips of the show to gameplay.” The game also promises to capture the show’s humor and fun as Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May have recorded “hours of original voice acting” for the game.
Amazon didn’t reveal which cars will be featured in the game, but the promotional images suggest there will be a handful of high-performance models such as the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder and Rimic One. We can also see a BMW M2 and a Ford Mustang.
The game won’t be entirely reliant on the show for entertainment as there will be a multiplayer campaign for up to four people. It sounds a bit like a knockoff of Mario Kart as there will be power-ups such as High Tea and More Horsepowers. The latter is a speed up, while the former “spills tire-shredding cups and saucers.”
According to Jeremy Clarkson, “It’s a video game featuring me, the crashy one and the slow one.” He added, “If you’ve always wanted to come on the road with us, this is as close as you’ll ever get. Unless you kidnap James and steal his face.”
