Well this must have been a little bit awkward…

Footage surfaced on YouTube showing a man running away from a firefighter, evidently thinking it was a police officer. It is hilarious.

The video is from the dashcam of a firetruck that was responding to a structure fire. The vehicle briefly speeds through a parking lot with its sirens blaring and red lights flashing. When it pulled up behind a silver Honda Accord, the driver absolutely freaked out.

Evidently thinking that he was being pulled over by a police car, the Accord driver slams on the brakes, opens his door, and makes a run for it. If you don’t burst out laughing the moment he runs away, leaving his passenger in the car, you have a lot more self control than us.

It’s unclear exactly why the driver decided to make a break for it but we wouldn’t be surprised if he had an arrest warrant against him or was wanted by police for something he did. Whatever the case may be, he obviously thought the best course of action wasn’t to face the consequences but instead try to evade police.

If this was a police officer, rather than a firefighter, running may have been the worst possible thing the man could do. Certain police in the United States have a reputation for being rather trigger happy and this could have ended tragically.

If we were to give you any advice, we’d suggest never running away from police. Alternatively, you could avoid breaking the law and never have to worry about being pulled over by law enforcement. That’s probably the smarter thing to do.
