Three people were seriously injured during a Stock Light race in Brazil, when Erik Mayrink’s car collided with another vehicle following what looked like an unsafe release.

The video shows how Mayrink was released into the path of another car that was just pulling in, ready to be serviced, and proceeded to impact four people in total, three of which were left badly injured. The man seen filming the action with his smartphone sustained the worst injuries as his head impacted the roof of the car.

According to The Mirror, local media reported that the three injured men were rushed to the Santa Casa de Campo Grande hospital, where one of the mechanics was treated for a broken tibia, whilst the other had a broken foot.

The third had suffered a brain swelling, so he had to be operated on, and is now said to be in a stable condition, although the doctors will be keeping him in the intensive care unit for “one or two days”.

As for what could have been done to prevent this tragic accident from taking place to begin with, well, a little more awareness from the pit crew mechanic that released Mayrink’s car would have definitely helped. Even though it was a busy pit lane, the fact that other cars were approaching was more than obvious had he been paying attention.
