San Francisco’s Bay Bridge isn’t as famous as the Golden Gate, but the Metropolitan Transportation Commission notes it’s a “workhorse bridge” that is used by more than 45 million vehicles every year.
The vital artery, which connects San Francisco and Oakland, was recently brought to a screeching halt thanks to some idiots who wanted to show off. According to the Mercury News and the California Highway Patrol, at approximately 10:45 am on Sunday, several cars blocked traffic on the bridge so two Mustangs could do donuts.
Unsurprisingly, this caused a flood of phones call to police. While one of the drivers was taken into custody for reckless driving and exhibition of speed, the other drivers seem to have gotten off with a slap on the wrist. The Mercury News says most were cited for “mechanical violations,” while one driver had their car impounded because they didn’t have a license.

The driver of the Mustang convertible was arrested and will have their car impounded for 30 days. The charges could land him in jail for up to three months for reckless driving and an additional 90 days for exhibition of speed. That’s on top of fines and the potential for community service.
It remains unclear if the drivers will learn their lesson, but this isn’t the first time someone has been arrested for doing donuts on the Bay Bridge. Back in 2016, the driver of another Mustang was charged with reckless driving and street racing.
