Not only did BMW bless the new M5 with an all-wheel-drive system, which is a first for the series, but also with a more hardcore version called the M5 Competition.

Revealed earlier this year, the more badass edition of the already super athletic sports sedan from Bavaria adds even more power together with a host of chassis upgrades, including steering and suspension enhancements, as well as a few (subtle) visual changes.

Just like the regular BMW M5 F90, the Competition uses a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine. Only here it has been massaged to deliver an extra 25 PS (25 hp / 18 kW), which brings output to 625 PS (617 hp / 460 kW). Peak torque remains the same at 750 Nm (553 lb-ft).

Under heavy acceleration, the mods come together and allow the BMW M5 Competition to sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.3 seconds, or 0.1 seconds quicker than the regular M5. To understand just how quick the super sedan is, one needs to compare it to a modern supercar, such as the Ferrari 488 GTB. The Italian beast goes from rest to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.0 seconds, with its twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8 engine makes 670 PS (661 hp / 492 kW) and 760 Nm (561 lb-ft) of torque.

In the following video that was shot on the outskirts of the Ascari track, in Spain, we get a demonstration of the car’s Launch Control function, as well as a quick walk around the super saloon.
