Earlier this year, Lincoln previewed the all-new, three-row Aviator SUV with a prototype that was presented at the New York Auto Show.
The show car was very well received, as it carried the Navigator’s clean lines into a smaller package.
Although Lincoln has yet to reveal a launch date, its design chief has already gone on record stating that the production car will closely mirror the concept.
As is often the case, though, someone didn’t wait for the real thing to be unveiled, but imagined a different version of the upcoming luxury crossover – more specifically, a BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe rival.
The Aviator Coupe is the work of Nihar Mazumdar, who kept the design of the concept up to the B-pillar and drew a sloping roofline. Besides the visual effect, such an approach would necessitate the removal of the third-row, as there wouldn’t be enough head space for any occupants.

Now, this rendering is obviously just for kicks, as Lincoln has no intention of offering such a vehicle. Instead, their focus is on putting the Aviator on the market. The SUV will slot under the Navigator and, in terms of size and equipment level, will compete against the all-new BMW X5, Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz GLE.
The seven-seater model will ride on a new RWD-biased platform, with available all-wheel drive, and while the automaker wouldn’t divulge what powertrains it intends to use, we know that the prototype used a twin-turbo, plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The rumor mill suggests that Lincoln’s all-new Aviator will be powered by a twin-turbo petrol engine and might be rear-wheel drive only, whereas the PHEV version should benefit from an AWD system.
