VW is gearing up to launch the Arteon in the United States by calling on award-winning photographer Douglas Sonders to capture the new model’s modern styling.
The photo shoot is meant to surround the Arteon with a techno vibe, as well as retro influences. Sonders stated that he was inspired by ’80s synth wave music, making this the first time his work has been displayed in a museum gallery format, at the Petersen Automotive Museum in LA.
“It’s important to capture a car’s essence,” said Sonders. “I develop an emotional attachment to my cars, and they each have a personality in their designs. The Volkswagen Arteon has a beautiful modern edge, from the shoulder lines to the grille, and I wanted to do it justice.”
“I loved this space, and thought the symmetry and drama of the ceiling with the dark background worked well with the lines of the Arteon.”
Aside from its stylish looks, the Arteon will draw its power from VW’s 2.0-liter turbocharged TSI engine, providing 268 HP and 258 lb-ft (349 Nm) of torque. Other features include the standard 8-speed automatic transmission, 4Motion all-wheel drive (available on every trim level), standard DCC adaptive damping and Start-Stop system.
The 2019 VW Arteon will reach U.S. dealers later this year, when it will be available in SE, SEL and SEL Premium trims. The cars will also feature VW’s transferable People First Warranty, providing coverage for six years or 72,000 miles (115,872 km).
