It takes a double dose of the brave pill to be able to squeeze out everything this insane Volkswagen Golf 2 has to offer – and it can offer a lot.
The heavily modified hatchback managed to run the quarter mile in a mind-blowing 8.47 seconds, at 269 km/h (167 mph), during a drag racing event in Germany, thus setting a new world record.
It required quite a few runs to do so, but taking a look at the video below reveals why: laying down 1,233 PS (1,216 hp / 907 kW) and 1,094 Nm (807 lb-ft) of torque is anything but easy. That’s despite the modified all-wheel drive system equipping the car and the tuned DSG dual-clutch transmission.

This Golf Mk2 is the work of Boba Motoring. The tuner has been constantly upgrading it over these past few years, and in addition to the reworked gearbox mentioned above, it recently added a new turbocharger.
The neck-snapping hatch is just as quick as a Bugatti Chiron from naught to 100 km/h (62 mph), at about 2.5 seconds, but unlike the Molsheim-built, multi-million hypercar, it lacks all security features, sound deadening and comfort. All in all, it’s basically a square metal box powered by a very potent 2.0-liter four-banger.
