A very rare 1986 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 is heading to the Silverstone Auctions sale later this month and is expected to fetch between £37,000 and £42,000 ($48,520 – $55,080).
This is no ordinary Sierra Cosworth RS500, though. Instead, it is one of just 10 units to be tuned by Wolf Racing, the official Ford DTM works team. It’s therefore no surprise that pre-auction estimates predict it to fetch a pretty penny.
Wolf Racing served as Ford’s official works team in DTM competition from 1984 until 1990, and in that period, raked up a host of race wins. Ford was kind enough to provide Wolf Racing with 10 Sierras to spruce up – and they did just that.
Compared to the standard model, the Wolf Racing RS500 comes fitted with an extensively-modified engine complete with racing pistons, green injectors, an enlarged fuel pump, racing wastegate, uprated electronic control chip, and a steel twin-exit exhaust. This results in a punchy 300 HP.
Alongside the engine upgrades, some other changes were made. These include lowered sports suspension, 16-inch gold DTM-style wheels, sports pedals, a racing gear knob, and more.
This particular car spent most of its life in mainland Europe and was imported to the UK earlier this year. The auction house says the Moonstone Blue paintwork retains its original shine and that the car has covered a total of 24,000 miles (38,000 km). It also recently underwent a full service and MoT inspection and is ready to hit the road.
