Ford has used the Texas State Fair to introduce four new special editions.
Since the Texas is responsible for nearly 25 percent of Expedition sales in the United States, Ford is rewarding its loyal buyers the Texas Edition. Based on the Expedition Limited with the Special Edition Package, the Texas Edition features special badging and 22-inch alloy wheels.
The Expedition Stealth Edition features more extensive changes as it has a number of gloss black accents including the grille, mirrors and roof rails. Other gloss black components include the running boards, rear skid plate and lighting unit surrounds. Rounding out the changes are black badges, red contrast stitching, a continuous controlled damping system and 22-inch aluminum wheels with a black finish.
Since both special editions are based on the Expedition Limited, they are powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that develops 375 hp (279 kW / 380 PS) and 470 lb-ft (636 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a ten-speed automatic transmission which can be paired to an optional four-wheel drive system.
Besides the Expeditions, Ford introduced two special editions of the Explorer. The first is the Explorer Limited Luxury Edition which is based on the Limited variant and features a modestly revised exterior with chrome mirror caps and 20-inch aluminum wheels with painted accents.
Bigger changes occur in the cabin as the model comes nicely equipped with multi-contour seats which are wrapped in micro-perforated Nirvana leather. The crossover also has a revised steering wheel and door panels with leather inserts.
Lastly, Ford unveiled the Explorer Desert Copper Edition. Based on the Explorer XLT, the special edition has chrome mirror caps and 20-inch polished aluminum wheels. Other highlights include two-tone leather seats and matching door panel inserts.
Ford declined to mention pricing, but all four special editions will be available to order later this year.
