The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE hit our computer screens recently and appears to be quite a compelling package.
Mercedes-Benz says the GLE will be sold in a selection of guises but so far, only a single variant has been detailed. This model, the GLE 450 4MATIC, features a 3.0-liter six-cylinder with 48-volt technology to produce 367 hp and 358 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. The engine is equipped with an EQ Boost function that adds 22 hp and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) for short bursts.
All GLE models will be sold as standard with a 9G-Tronic transmission complete with a transfer case outfitted with an electronically controlled multi-disc clutch. Brave GLE owners who want to take their vehicles off road can opt for a special off-roading package that includes a low-range gearbox for excellent low-speed traction. We can’t imagine many soccer moms ticking this option box.
The 2019 GLE also comes loaded with safety technologies. Chief among these are Active Distance Assist Distronic, Active Stop-and-Go Assist, Active Steering Assist, Active Distance Assist, Active Brake Assist, and Active Blind Sport Assist with exit warning.
Perhaps the coolest feature of the new GLE is Mercedes-Benz’s E-Active Body Control system. Working with the 48-volt architecture and air suspension, this system individually controls the spring and damping forces at all four corners. The result is a vehicle with minimal body roll, pitching, and squat. It also means the GLE can bounce up and down like a low-rider.
