Are you starting to get withdrawals from the Fast & Furious franchise? If you are, you should probably see a psychologist. However, if you’re simply looking forward to the next action blockbuster, we have some exciting news for you.
According to Screen Rant, filming of Fast & Furious 9 will commence on April 20, 2019 in Atlanta. Directing the film will be Justin Lin, the man behind Fast & Furious from 2009 and Fast & Furious 6 from 2013.
Interestingly, initial plans called for Fast & Furious 9 to be released on April 19, 2019 but that date has been pushed back until April 10, 2020. The reason? Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.
As you may have heard, fans were so receptive of Johnson’s and Statham’s relationship in The Fate of the Furious that a spin-off dubbed Hobbs and Shaw has been under development. Johnson took to Instagram on September 11 to confirm that filming had just commenced.
Although Hobbs and Shaw has delayed Fast & Furious 9, the film is still assured to be a hit. Following Paul Walker’s death, Furious 7 quickly became the highest grossing film in the franchise, bringing in $1.5 billion worldwide. The Fate of the Furious backed this up with an impressive worldwide total of $1.2 billion.
Very few details about Fast & Furious 9 are known. However, it seems inevitable that filming will also take place outside of Atlanta and in some exotic locations throughout the world. Additionally, some of the industry’s finest performance cars will be featured.
