Ford’s ST-branded models have always offered a nice compromise between performance and affordability, and the car manufacturer is eager to prove that that is still the case with the all-new Edge ST.
The performance crossover was revealed earlier this year and uses a turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 delivering 335 hp and 380 lb-ft (515 Nm), significantly more than the old Edge Sport. Power is sent through all-four wheels via an eight-speed SelectShift automatic transmission.
In a bid to show us all just how much more capable the Edge ST is than the smaller Fiesta ST and Focus ST, Ford lined the trio up for a drag race.
No prizes for guessing which of the three is the quickest off the line, as the Edge ST obviously has a significant power advantage over the two hatchbacks plus all-wheel drive, which gives it a massive traction advantage over the FWD Fiesta and Focus.
Ford hasn’t quoted an official 0-60 mph (96 km/h) time for the Edge ST, other than confirming that it is somewhere under six seconds. For an unassuming vehicle of this sort, that’s pretty impressive.
Earlier this month, Ford announced that the sporty crossover has a base price of $43,350 including the destination charge. Beyond its juiced-up engine, the Edge ST can be specced with the ST Performance Brake Package for $2695. This pack includes performance brake pads, front and rear ventilated rotors, and 21-inch black-painted wheels with summer tires.
However, to get this option pack, buyers must also spec the $5585 Equipment Group 401A that adds features including rear heated and cooled seats, self-packing, and voice-activated navigation – and, combined, these two bump up the price to over $50k.
