When it comes to Porsche 911 restomod projects, there’s no doubt Singer Vehicle Design stole the limelight in recent years.
But there are other companies around the world that lovingly restore and upgrade classic 911s, and many of them are based in the UK. Paul Stephens is one of the leading specialists and the Le Mans Classic Clubsport 911 restomod launched this summer is a true testament to that.
Carfection had the chance to take it for a drive and now share their impressions in a video review. We won’t get in the details because the following video does that all too well.
We will tell you that the 911 restomod starts off as a Porsche 964 tub that’s subsequently fitted with lightweight body panels and parts, as well as a high-revving air-cooled flat-six engine that makes 300 horsepower.
The result is a 0 to 60 mph sprint of 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 175 mph (282 km/h). Pretty much what a base Porsche 911 Carrera does nowadays. As you can imagine, the driving experience is quite different from the current 911. To cut a long story short, it’s a dream to drive and the reviewer couldn’t say a single bad thing about it.
Then again, at £250,000 (about $326,700), it’d better be that good. Yes, it may cost more than a brand new 911 GT2 RS, but you should know that building the Le Mans Classic Clubsport takes 2,000 hours and it’s done entirely by hand. If that doesn’t convince you, there’s also the exclusivity factor. Paul Stephens will only build 10 Le Mans Classic Clubsport models, one for each edition of the classic Le Mans race held so far.
