A deliberately-lit fire at the Kings Plaza parking garage in Brooklyn, New York has damaged 137 vehicles and left many of them destroyed.
New York Post reports that the blaze erupted at around 8:30 am Monday on the second floor of the four-level garage.
Of the 137 vehicles which were damaged, 132 of them were Mercedes-Benz models stored there by the Mercedes-Benz of Brooklyn dealership. Approximately 70 were totally destroyed, leaving the dealership with hardly any inventory.
Dealership workers told local reporters that vehicles it had stored at the parking garage included C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, and GLS models. The damage bill stretches well into the millions of dollars.

It took approximately 250 firefighters and three hours to bring the inferno under control. Considering the fact that the parking garage can hold up to 4000 vehicles, things could have been much worse.
Fortunately, no one was killed in the fire but eighteen firefighters and three civilians did receive medical treatment for minor injuries. All remain in a stable condition.
“Our members have various levels of smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion,” PDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said.
“Working under those conditions with this amount of smoke and this amount of heat, wearing what they wear, one can only imagine what they went through.”
Security cameras in the garage caught the moment a man left the scene shortly before the fire broke out. Authorities soon arrested Avon Stephens on arson charges. Stephens is reported to be a local homeless man that frequently sleeps in the parking garage. Speaking to reporters after his arrest, Stephens said “I’m sorry. I apologize.”
