Nissan Navara Rubs The Aging Frontier’s Nose In Its Latest Special Editions

The Nissan Frontier we get in the US may be growing a little long in the proverbial tooth, but its overseas counterpart is still pretty fresh. And the Japanese automaker is keeping it at the forefront with a pair of new special editions.

Announced (at least initially) for the Australian market, the new Silverline and ST Black editions of the Navara follow on the success achieved by the previous ST-X N-Sport edition, all 500 examples of which sold out Down Under shortly after the model’s release.

The Black Edition is based on the Navara Dual Cab 4X4 ST, and as you might have guessed, encompasses an array of murdered-out trim, including black sports bar, nudge bar, LED light bar, wheel arches, grille, mirror caps, fog lamp surrounds, decals, and 18-inch alloys. It also comes with a smoked hood protector, a soft tonneau cover, and protective bedliner.

The Silverline edition upgrades on the Navara Dual Cab 4×4 SL and gets a more limited list of enhancements, including 16-inch alloys (instead of the standard steel wheels), a polished alloy sports bar, and special badging.

Only 900 examples of each will be offered in Australia, priced from $48,690 for the Black Edition and $39,490 for the Silverline. Of course those prices are in Australian dollars, which work out to about $35k and $28k in equivalent US dollars, respectively.

The Australian market is one of the most vital for the Navara, which is produced in Thailand for regional consumption, with parallel assembly in Spain, Mexico, Argentina, and China. And that’s just Nissan’s own version, which also serves as the basis for the Renault Alaskan and Mercedes-Benz X-Class. None of them are offered in North America, though, where the previous generation soldiers on as the Frontier after a decade and a half now.
