Only days removed from her first Grand Slam championship, 20-year old Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka has signed on as Nissan’s newest brand ambassador.
The automaker made the announcement at its global headquarters in Yokohama, which also marked one of Osaka’s first appearances in Japan since winning her title on September 8th. Osaka is also the first Japanese player to win a women’s singles Grand Slam.
“This week has been a dream come to life, and I’m so honored to represent Japan and Nissan on the world stage,” said the tennis star. “I was drawn to partner with Nissan because of its strong Japanese DNA and global competitive spirit. The brand is always challenging expectations, and I look forward to bringing its vision for driving excitement to new audiences around the world.”
As part of her contract with the automaker, Osaka will be featured in global promotions and adverts for Nissan, while the latter will support her activities within the sport, such as providing her with vehicles at her tour destinations.
“With a combination of grid and grace, Naomi Osaka is not afraid to take on the best tennis players of our time, and win,” stated Nissan VP Asako Hoshino. “This is the same spirit of performance that Nissan has embodied throughout our history – exemplified most recently by the Nissan LEAF, which defied the odds to become the best-selling electric vehicle in the world. And just like Naomi, Nissan is just getting started.”
Aside from her recent Grand Slam victory, Osaka is also well-known for being a very dynamic and offensive baseline-type of player, with a consistent and powerful serve.
