Even if they’re the ones with the green light or the right of way, motorcycle riders should always be weary of car drivers, especially when crossing an intersection.

What happened here is, unfortunately, pretty typical. Drivers will often cut across an intersection even if when they shouldn’t. It happens even more during very busy hours, when people tend to focus more on squeezing past other motorists, rather than obeying traffic regulations.

In this occasion, a female motorist decided to turn right across an intersection at the precise moment when a police motorcycle was coming through. The crash took place in Adelaide, Australia, and the officer is said to have suffered serious head injuries, according to FiveAA.

Thankfully, he’s expected to make a full recovery, which is no small feat considering how hard he hit the ground after being thrown in the air following the impact.

While we can’t say for sure how fast the officer was going, he was clearly moving at a quicker pace than regular traffic – well over 44 km/h (27 mph), as per the dashcam footage. Still, he did manage to slow himself down briefly right before impacting the side of the car, which definitely helped his chances.
