This low-mileage 2008 Ducati Desmosedici RR is one of just 1,500 units produced, each carrying a roughly $72,000 sticker when they first came out.
The Desmosedici RR is said to be a true replica of the motorcycle manufacturer’s MotoGP racing bike at the time, hence the RR moniker that stands for Racing Replica. The bike was in production between October 2007 and December 2008 and its hefty price tag also came with a three year warranty and servicing, a race-only exhaust system, a slip-on muffler as well as custom fuel and ignition mapping through the race ECU.
This particular example, getting auctioned off on Bring a Trailer, has the Team Version graphics (there were two graphics packs initially available), with broad white stripes across the sides. Features include a carbon fiber body work, carbon fiber subframe, Ohlins suspension, slipper clutch, Brembo brakes, forged magnesium wheels and more.
According to the seller, the Desmosedici had been in his private collection for 10 years, during which it was used for a handful of local shows and even featured in a Discovery Channel special.
As for the pièce de résistance, it’s the 989 cc V4 engine that produces a claimed 200 PS (197 HP) at 13,800 rpm, with a peak torque output of 116 Nm (85 lb-ft) and allowed for a 188 mph (303 km/h) top speed. Best of all? The odo shows just 250 miles (402 km) on it, so it’s barely run-in.
At that time, this was the only V4-powered Ducati, but today the Italian marque also has the Panigale V4 in its range, which is even more powerful and, more significantly, comes with a pack of advanced electronics like traction, slide and wheelie control. Plus it’s cheaper, of course, but it’s not a limited edition like the Desmosedici RR. At the time of writing, the highest bid was US$55,000, with two days left until the auction ends.
