Vehicle fires are always unfortunate, but they’re especially bad when you’re in the middle of nowhere. That’s exactly what happened to YouTuber Casey Kaiser who was filming an off-road adventure with his Jeep Wrangler.
About ten minutes into the video, Kaiser is looking for a place to camp for the night. As he’s looking, he comes across a gate that needs to be opened. He turns off the Jeep and hops outside, but notices smoke coming from underneath the hood.
Kaiser opened the hood and the rush of oxygen apparently helped the fire grow. Thankfully, Kaiser had a fire extinguisher with him and used it to combat the blaze. He continued spraying the extinguisher until it was empty and it initially seemed to be working pretty well.
Unfortunately, the flames flared back up when the extinguisher was empty so Kaiser grabbed a couple of gallons of water to pour onto the fire. This appeared to have worked, but the fire had already spread to the passenger compartment.
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Kaiser abandoned the firefighting effort and decided to grab as much equipment from the Jeep as he could. This was pretty important as Kaiser was about 30 miles (48 km) away from main roads in “some of the most remote desert in Oregon.”
Over the course of the next few minutes, the fire spread and eventually engulfed the Wrangler in flames. Kaiser then focused on preventing the fire from spreading to the nearby vegetation.
After the fire eventually burned itself out, Kaiser was able to send his GPS coordinates to friend who picked him up in the morning. It’s still unclear what started the fire, but thankfully he made it out okay.
