The second generation Nissan Qashqai has been with us since 2013, and four years later, it welcomed a much deserved facelift.
Fast forward to present day, and the compact SUV has gained a few interesting upgrades, the most significant one being the introduction of a turbocharged 1.3-liter petrol engine.
Co-developed between Renault-Nissan and Daimler, it already equips several vehicles from all three automakers. And in the revamped Qashqai, it’s available in two outputs, with 140 PS (138 hp / 103 kW) and 160 PS (158 hp / 118 kW), replacing both the old 1.2- and 1.6-liter petrol units.

AutoTrader went for a spin in the less powerful version of the 2019 Nissan Qashqai, and immediately found the engine to be more responsive, economical, quieter and better overall than the previous unit. Also, for 95 percent of its buyers, it’s all they’ll ever need, in the reviewer’s own words. However, if they want thee optional seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, they have to go for the 160 PS version.
Another thing that should interest potential buyers is the new infotainment system. It’s offered on all grades except for the entry-level, and at a first glance, it’s more intuitive.
Combined with the fact that the Qashqai already offers plenty of space for adults and a decent amount of boot space, in addition to a comfortable drive, the 2019MY might still be one of the best vehicles in class.
