So Toyota has started the press drives of the new RAV4 but imposed an embargo on driving impressions, fuel economy figures and pricing until November 20.

However, Kelley Blue Book gives us a first taste of the new Toyota RAV4, taking us for a tour of the exterior and the interior, as well as showing the infotainment system.

The new generation RAV4 is lower and wider than its predecessor, featuring a longer wheelbase despite measuring slightly shorter in length.

The exterior design was previewed by the FT-AC concept at the 2017 LA Auto Show, giving the new Toyota RAV4 a more squared and rugged appearance. Details like the angular headlights, the prominent front grille and the distinctive fender shape give the new Toyota SUV a more adventurous character.

The design choices inside won’t rewrite any rule books but Toyota has applied some nice touches to make the RAV4 feel more special. These include rubberized knobs for the climate system, really comfortable front seats, soft-touch materials in the right places and the latest eight-inch infotainment system that now comes with Apple CarPlay and is Amazon Alexa compatible.

The rear passengers also get plenty of space, partly thanks to the almost flat floor, the reclining seats and the expanded glasshouse.

Toyota will offer the new RAV4 in both front- and all-wheel drive flavors, distinct styling features for each trim and two powertrain options: a 2.5-liter petrol four-cylinder and a hybrid.
