Bentley Built A Restaurant At 6,000 Feet Above The Persian Gulf – And Closed It

Bentley made its name creating some of the most opulent and luxurious motor vehicles ever to grace the road. But it’s also been known to apply its skills to other areas, the latest of which is this fine restaurant in the United Arab Emirates.

Opened to celebrate the Middle Eastern launch of the new Continental GT, the restaurant was built atop Jebel Jais – the tallest mountain in the region – at an altitude of 1,934 meters (6,345 feet) above sea level.

The dining room was outfitted in typical Bentley style, with wood and leather and an unsurpassed view of the dessert wilderness below. And the automaker brought in world-renowned chef Colin Clague to create the menu: a five-course meal fusing traditional British and Middle Eastern cuisine.

“Working with Bentley – which is a British icon – on such an innovative project has been a very unique experience,” said Clague. “Over the course of my career I’ve worked in many kitchens in many countries across the globe, but I’ve never served dinner in a completely bespoke restaurant on the highest mountain in the UAE. It’s certainly a moment I will never forget.”

If the opportunity to dine in such an environment sounds too good to pass up, we have bad news for you: unfortunately the restaurant was a pop-up, and closed after just seven days.

It’s not the first real-estate project on which Bentley worked, however, and surely won’t be the last. In addition to its own facilities and dealer showrooms, the British automaker has outfitted hotels and lodges in its signature style. And you can bet there’ll be more to come.
