A prototype of the BMW M2 was spotted testing at the Nurburgring earlier this week, with a slightly more aggressive design than that of the M2 Competition.
And while nobody outside the company can confirm whether this is the rumored M2 CS/CSL or not, it appears that BMW’s M Division could be working on a more track-focused version of the car.
According to BMWBlog, the new model will be named the M2 CS and will hit the assembly line in March 2020. It should remain in production for approximately one year, serving as the swansong of the current generation M2, whose replacement is reportedly coming in 2021.

The M2 CS will likely follow in the footsteps of its larger CS siblings, the M3 and M4. It will probably be a bit lighter than the M2 Competition, and feature some aerodynamic revisions, new wheels and cabin updates.
It’s also likely that the M Division will tune the S55 six-cylinder a bit, allowing it to produce a tad more than the M2 Competition’s 410 PS (405 hp / 301 kW) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque. The latter can be had with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DCT, but it’s unknown if BMW will offer both options in the CS.
