Australia’s annual Bathurst 1000 was held over the weekend and as always, delivered some addictive racing.

Prior to the ‘Great Race’ getting underway, Ford decided to celebrate the Falcon’s long tenure in the sport by conducting a special speed comparison, pitting a Falcon Supercar up against a Mustang GT4 racer and the company’s successful GT Le Mans race car.

The race started with the Mustang GT4 leaving the line at the Mount Parorama Circuit a full five seconds ahead of the Falcon Supercar. The GT then rocketed off the grid five seconds after the Falcon.

Who will win this Aussie face-off?

The famous Australian circuit is best-known for its treacherous middle section that includes tight bends, no run-off areas, and dramatic elevation changes that often see it compared to Laguna Seca’s famous ‘Corkscrew.’

Throughout much of the lap, the three cars remained an equal distance apart but as the trio ran down Mount Panorama’s back-straight, they closed up, providing fans at the circuit with a spectacular finish as the cars almost crossed the finish line in unison.

While Ford celebrated the retirement of the Falcon throughout the weekend, the automaker will remain in the sport thanks to the Mustang.

Ford Performance recently released a teaser image of the Mustang Supercar it will field in next year’s championship with DJR Team Penske, Tickford Racing, and 23Red Racing. The presence of the Mustang in the sport will ensure the country’s famous Holden vs Ford rivalry continues for years to come on the track.
