Jaguar is known primarily for manufacturing luxury automobiles. Not just sedans, but crossovers and electric vehicles now, too. But it has a parallel heritage in creating sports cars. And it’s celebrating that legacy with this special-edition F-Type.

Called the Chequered Flag edition, the special F-Type marks 70 years since the launch of the original XK120 in 1948 – since which it has produced such sports cars as the E-Type, XK, and XJ220.

The Jaguar F-Type Chequered Flag edition is based on the R-Dynamic trim with the Exterior Design Pack, and upgrades with such unique features as a contrasting black rook and unique 20-inch alloys hiding red brake calipers. Inside you’ll find Windsor Leather upholstery, Performance seats, dark brushed aluminum trim on the center console, and a special steering wheel with checkered-flag logo and red-leather center mark at 12 o’clock. And of course it features special badges inside and out.

“Perfect proportions, design purity and visual drama – every Jaguar must express these qualities, and none more so than F-Type,” said chief designer Ian Callum. “In creating the Chequered Flag we’ve focused on details which enhance F-Type’s presence and promise of performance – and in doing so, made a fitting celebration of 70 years of beautiful, fast, Jaguar sports cars.”

The special edition can be had in both coupe and convertible body-styles, and with either the 2.0-liter turbo four rated at 296 hp (221 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque or the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 good for 380 hp (283 kW) and 339 lb-ft (460 Nm). Both come mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear drive or (in the V6 version) available all-wheel drive.

Along with the special edition, Jaguar has also upgraded the suspension on the F-Type R with softer dampers and components borrowed from the top-of-the-line SVR model.
