After serving the U.S. in World War II, the Willys Jeep has become a motoring icon, with fully restored examples fetching big bucks on the used car market.
Throw in some ties with a celebrity, like Steve McQueen in this case, and you’ve found the perfect Willys Jeep.
The vehicle appeals to car collectors and fans of the late actor alike, and is currently found in the United Kingdom, where SilverstoneAuctions will offer it for grabs next month. The auction house estimates it will sell for £80,000-£100,000 ($105,102/€90,809-$131,378/€113,511) at the NEC Classic Motor Show Sale in Birmingham, on November 10 and 11, and states that it underwent a thorough restoration.

The car is in pristine condition and it’s accompanied by a lot of documents that prove its former celebrity ownership. Moreover, the EU and UK taxes have also been paid, so the only thing its next owner should do is take it out for a drive.
McQueen purchased the Willys straight from the U.S. Army, which makes him the second owner. The vehicle was kept in his personal car collection and was sold at the ‘Steve McQueen Estate Auction’ on November 24-25, 1984, in Las Vegas. The winning bidder paid $6,000 (€5,184/£4,566) back then, or approximately ten times the going rate, and sold it to the current vendor eventually at an undisclosed date.
So, there you have it: a WWII Jeep in perfect condition, which was once owned and driven by the coolest man in Hollywood, as the special plaque in the dashboard certifies, that’s waiting to be introduced to the road again.
