Short of baseball and apple pie, things don’t get much more authentically home-grown American than the Chevy Corvette and Jeep Wrangler. They were even both originally designed as two-seat convertibles. That doesn’t mean, though, that they belong together in one mashup of a vehicle, but somebody in Wisconsin evidently felt otherwise.
For sale on Craigslist in the Milwaukee area (where another wheeled American icon is made) is one individual’s rather unique creation – or a project in progress, we should say. Because as you can plainly see for yourself, it hasn’t quite been completed.
As our friends at The Drive report, it’s based on a 2003 C5-generation Corvette Z06, which would be a solid platform for just about any project. But this one’s had all its fiberglass body panels removed and replaced with the bodywork from an old Jeep – a CJ, from the looks of it, which predates the advent of the modern Wrangler. (Jeep and its various parent companies made some 1.5 million of those between 1944 and 1986, so the donors are hardly in short supply.)
The vehicle, such as it is, is listed as a “rolling chassis,” and has some 36,000 miles on it. It even has some of its drivetrain components installed – along with the seats, dashboard, console, and wheels… but no engine. Apparently the owner put that in a newer ‘Vette when he abandoned this project.
Think you can (or even should) fare better with this Frankenstein’s monster of an American project car? $4,500 is the asking price. But we’re not about to comment on the wisdom of such an “investment.”
