A few days after increasing the price of the Model 3 Mid-Range shortly after its launch, Tesla has slashed pricing of the range-topping Model 3 Performance. Kind of.
You see, InsideEVs reports that all Model 3 Performance models now come equipped with the previously optional, $5000 Performance Upgrade package. Consequently, pricing for the range-topping Model 3 with the pack now starts at $64,000 rather than $69,000.
Of course, buyers that don’t want to tick that option box will still have to shell out at least $64,000 for the Model 3 Performance.
The Performance Upgrade package includes a number of features that distinguish it from the ‘regular’ Model 3 Performance. Among these features are 20-inch Performance wheels, upgraded performance brakes, a carbon fiber rear spoiler, lowered suspension, aluminum alloy pedals, and an increase in the vehicle’s top speed from 145 mph (233 km/h) to 155 mph (250 km/h).
In a statement provided to Electrek, a Tesla spokesperson explained the change.
“We periodically adjust available options and packages in order to simplify our product offering and deliver the best possible driving experience to customers.”
Interestingly, Tesla chief executive Elon Musk has revealed that those Model 3 Performance buyers who previously paid an extra $5000 for the Performance Upgrade package, will be reimbursed the money if they choose to forego their free Supercharging.
If Model 3 customers opt for the Performance model and tick all the options, including Red Multi-Coat Paint, Black and White Premium Interior, and Enhanced Autopilot, the vehicle tops out at $72,500 plus a $1200 delivery and handling fee.
