It’s been nearly two years since McLaren first announced the project known by the code name BP23. But we won’t have to wait much longer to see it, and see what it’ll do, because the British racing team turned supercar manufacturer has announced it will unveil the highly anticipated McLaren Speedtail on October 23.

That’s when we’ll get to see the complete shape and delve into the details that will comprise the next chapter in Woking’s Ultimate Series, which follows the acclaimed P1 and Senna. Only unlike those singularly performance-focused exotics, the Speedtail has been designed as a “hyper-GT,” with an emphasis on covering ground with as much comfort as speed.

So, what will it do? Over 243 miles per hour (391 km/h), we’re told, which is the terminal velocity of which the McLaren F1 was capable. And that won’t be the only element of the legendary supercar which the Speedtail will emulate. It’ll also encompass a central driving position, with a pair of passenger seats mounted to either side. We’re not sure why Woking has chosen to revive the cabin layout on a grand tourer rather than on a track car, where the centerline seat might be most appreciated, but we’ll be glad to see it return, at any rate.

Also like the F1, McLaren will only build 106 examples, and they’ve all since long been sold out at a rate of £1.75 million (plus taxes), or about $2.3 million at current exchange rates. Each will be individually customized by McLaren Special Operations to each customers’ specifications.

What they’ll all share in common, though, beyond the shape and configuration, is the thousand-plus-horsepower output of the hybrid powertrain that will propel it to the highest top speed of any road legal car McLaren has ever made. Just how much power and what the Speedtail will be able to do with it, exactly, we’ll have to wait to find out. Good thing we won’t have to wait too long, then.
