Mercedes UK has added a pair of diesel-powered models to their A-Class lineup, placing them among the first to offer the latest RDE-2-compliant diesel engines in the country.
The new diesel engines (internally known as OM654) help the new Mercedes A-Class lower the running costs for their owners, whether they are business or private customers.
The first addition is the A200 d, which is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit with 148hp (150PS) and 236lb-ft (320Nm) of torque. Mercedes claims a 0-62mph (100km/h) in 8.1 seconds and a top speed limited to 137mph (220km/h). Fuel economy is rated at 67.3 mpg UK combined, with 110g/km of CO2 emissions.
The second new diesel model is the A220 d, which also uses the 2.0-liter unit, only here it makes 187hp (190PS) and 295lb-ft (400Nm). Performance is understandably improved, with 0-62mph coming in 7 seconds flat and a top speed of 146mph (235km/h). It will return 65.7 mpg UK combined and emit 114g/km of CO2.
Both powertrains are combined with the company’s 8G-DCT eight-speed automatic transmission. The A200 d can be had in Sport or AMG Line trims, while the more powerful A220 d is available only in conjunction with the latter.
Pricing for the new A200 d starts from £28,805, while the A220 d AMG Line will ask for £30,005. Mercedes offers three distinct option packages for the A-Class but if you want the full interior experience, complete with the big displays and all, you’ll have to tick the box for the £3,595 Premium Plus package that pretty much has everything, including a pair of 10.25-inch displays for the dashboard.
Mercedes UK has opened the order books for the new A200 d and A220 d now, with first deliveries expected in spring 2019.
