The sixth generation of the Delica people carrier has just been revealed by Mitsubishi.
Previewed by last year’s Delica Concept, the D:5 Delica is essentially a mashup between a minivan and an SUV, and is believed to use the same chassis as the Outlander.
It has a generous ground clearance and a very bold exterior design, with Mitsubishi’s signature grille at the front, flanked by a couple of slim headlights and large, vertical LED DRLs.
Opening the door reveals a very spacious cabin that can haul up to six passengers, on three rows of seats. There’s a tablet-like infotainment system in the middle of the dashboard, between the central air vents, with the controls for the climate system being positioned under the screen.
Power comes from a turbocharged 2.2-liter diesel engine that puts out 172 PS (170 hp / 127 kW) and 392 Nm (290 lb-ft) of torque, which are directed to both axles via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The AWD system allows drivers to select between 2WD, 4WD and Lock.
The new Mitsubishi D:5 Delica is aimed at the local market, where it will be available in two versions, called simply Delica D:5 and Urban Gear. The latter is a better equipped model, adding some exterior updates, new wheels and extra gear inside.
