A driver in China has damaged no less than nine vehicles after mistaking the accelerator for the brake pedal on a motorway packed with traffic.

Security cameras caught the entire scene unfold. The female driver can be initially seen accelerating and swerving in her sedan into oncoming traffic before getting back to the correct side of the road and rear-ending what appears to be a taxi. She then smashes the barrier, crosses over to the opposite side of the road and collides head-on with a white sedan.

Speaking to the police after the chaos, the driver claimed she was feeling drowsy after taking flu medication and insisted that she hadn’t been drinking.

Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in the crashes, but a pet dog was killed after being thrown from one of the vehicle’s involved.

In the following video it’s obvious that both the driver’s purple sedan and the white car she hit both sustained extensive damage and are, in all likelihood, write-offs. Authorities are said to be investigating the accident, but at the time of writing haven’t yet pressed charges against the woman.

Local police have used the accident to remind drivers not to drive after taking medication that can cause drowsiness.
