Fiat has lifted the veils off a brand new concept vehicle at the Sao Paulo Auto Show in Brazil.
It’s called the Fastback and it represents “the evolution of the brand” according to the press release, anticipating trends and indicating the future.
The Fastback concept has been designed by the Fiat Design Center Latam in Brazil and points the way forward for the brand in the region.
According to Fiat, the study will influence future production models, including in the segment of utility vehicles.
Fiat’s Brazilian subsidiary says the Fastback has an Italian soul and features “bold lines that convey sportiness and elegance.” It’s designed according to four new principles of Fiat design in Latin America: human, bold, contemporary and flexible, and seamless.
The Fastback concept is described as a hybrid between an SUV, sedan, and coupe. One can see some design details inspired by the Toro pickup, including the shape of the grille and the headlights. The rest of the car looks very different, however.
The Fastback appears more muscular and features a sloping roofline with an inclined rear screen as well as a raised rear end — traits typical of the so-called SUV-coupes. If you ask us, the creases on the rear haunches are a clear hint to the BMW X6. As with most concept cars nowadays, it lacks door handles and replaces the side mirrors with video cameras.
Inside, the Fiat Fastback boasts a futuristic dashboard with three transparent digital screens: one for the driver information, another for the infotainment system, and a third one for the climate controls. Highlights also include the flattened steering wheel and the concept seats.
A production model based on this study is expected to launch in Brazil in 2020 using Toro underpinnings.
