Hundreds of vehicles have been destroyed in a massive fire at the Port of Savona in Italy.

According to Savona News, the incident occurred at approximately 3:30 am local time on October 30th. There was a massive storm in the area and this caused sea levels to rise and flood two parking lots which were filled with vehicles waiting to be exported from the country.

The water level reportedly got high enough that the several batteries were exposed to salt water and this created a chain reaction which caused them to explode. High winds from the storm helped to fan the flames the fire eventually grew to engulf hundreds of different vehicles.

The Local reports that most of vehicles were new Maserati models waiting to be transported to the Middle East. Besides the Maseratis, video from the scene shows countless Fiat 500Ls burnt to a crisp. The fire is also said to have claimed an assortment of other vehicles and semi trucks.

The fire apparently lasted for quite awhile and took at least four teams of firefighters to extinguish the blaze. This was certainly hazardous as a number of vehicles exploded during the firefighting effort. Thankfully, reports suggest no one was injured.

The fire comes roughly one week after a separate blaze destroyed the port authority building. That particular incident required 14 teams of firefighters and the building was a complete loss.
