The following vehicle may not technically be a flying sports car but its creator sees it as an innovative new form of personal mobility.

What you’re looking at is the Koncepto Millenya, a flying car drone created by Filipino inventor Kyxz Mendiola that’s effectively a massive drone that provides seating for one person.

The Koncepto Millenya was developed and built by Mendiola over the past six years and utilizes 16 motors, 16 propellers, and 16 computers. The initial prototype built can fly at up to 20 feet and offers enough battery life for a flight time of 10-15 minutes. It uses carbon fiber in its construction to minimize weight.

Mendiola’s ‘flying car’ set the internet abuzz a couple months ago and attracted the interest of Star 8, an Australian company specializing in electric vehicles. Star 8 was so impressed with Mendiola’s creation that they’ve partnered up and intend on commercializing a vehicle similar to the Koncepto Millenya.

According to Star 8 chief executive and president Jacob Maimon, current plans call for an electric manned aerial vehicle to be launched with seating for up to two passengers and a combined weight of 200 kg (440 lbs). If the vehicle sees the light of day, it will be called the ‘Future 8’.

Recently discussing his creation with ABS CNB News, Mendiola said it was spawned from his interest in drones.

“When drone technology started coming to the Philippines, I started building drones as a hobby, and for filming. Out of curiosity, I wondered if I could build something that’s big enough to carry me.”
