A racing car can look cool sitting still, but that’s not what it’s meant for. It’s designed and engineered to be out on the track, and that’s just what the new Lynk & Co 03 TCR has done for the first time.
The 03 TCR is a new competition touring car being developed by Volvo, Geely’s youthful new Lynk & Co brand and their motorsport partner Cyan Racing (previously part of Polestar before Volvo bought that company outright).
It’s based on the upcoming Lynk & Co 03 sedan, but this version’s being developed to compete in the World Touring Car Cup in place of the Volvo S60. There’s even a road-going production version slated to follow with some 500 horsepower.
Geely Group Motorsport revealed the 03 TCR a little over a month ago, and has now undertaken the first test sessions at Estoril in Portugal and Mantorp in Sweden. Behind the wheel were touring car racing legend Yvan Muller and Thed Björk, who are slated to drive the car in the WTCR next season.
“The feeling to turn the first laps of an all-new race car is fantastic and I must say the Lynk & Co 03 TCR has lived up to my expectations,” said Björk. “Geely Group Motorsport has done a great job of development so far and we can’t wait to get going as we no doubt are facing one of the toughest seasons in the history of touring car racing in 2019.”
“We are happy with the progress so far and the car has been reliable in the first tests,” added Geely motorsport chief Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin. “The evaluation program goes according to plan and we have a couple of intense months ahead of us to secure a competitive car for our customer teams.”
