Since deliveries of the latest-generation Ford GT commenced, we’ve seen a number of brightly-colored examples rolling off the factory floor. This example, owned by racing driver Graham Rahal, might be our favorite example built so far.
This GT is chassis number 218 and has been painted in a custom shade of purple which isn’t actually from Ford’s official palette. Instead, it was mixed up specifically by Axalta Racing for Rahal and looks absolutely beautiful under the sunshine. The combination of silver racing stripes, a selection of gloss carbon fiber accents, and carbon fiber wheels make for one hell of a good-looking ride.
When the new GT was first announced, the American automaker said that it would build 500 examples over two years. However, Ford announced shortly afterwards that the vehicle’s production run would be extended to four years, making for a total of 1000 examples. Three weeks ago, the planned production run was once again extended by two years and will now be capped at 1350 cars.
While that’s good news for customers who’ve been longing to secure a production slot, we can’t help but think that GT’s built for the 2022 model year will feel a little out-dated. What’s more, they’ll also be well down on performance from similarly-priced rivals.
Nonetheless, unique examples, like Rahal’s purple GT, could prove to be good investments for the decades to come.
As a reminder, the car is powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine delivering 647 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque, allowing for a 216 mph (347 km/h) top speed and blistering on-track performance.
