BMW has a high-riding vehicle for pretty much every mainstream segment out there, and then some more.

At the top of the food chain lies the all-new X7, a full-size luxury SUV that has the Range Rover SVAutobiography and Mercedes-Benz GLS in its sight.

A fully loaded version of the BMW X7 costs in excess of $120k in the States. But fans of the Munich car firm with deep pockets might be treated to an ever more luxurious SUV, a rumored X8.

BMW already trademarked the moniker, and initial reports claimed that it could arrive around 2020, if given the green light for production, that is.

BMWBlog claims that the vehicle already has a codename: G09. And while it will build on the outgoing X7, if built, it won’t necessarily get a coupe-like roofline, which means generous headroom for rear passengers. Seating for four, with rear individual seats, is something that the German automaker is apparently interested in, but it remains to be seen whether a third row will be offered as an optional extra.

Wealthy clients would enjoy only the best in terms of interior finishes, equipment and technology features, said to make the BMW X8 the brand’s most expensive vehicle ever. But given that the automaker already has some more expensive cars on offering than the X7, including the 8-Series and i8, the X8 could fill the gap between the X7 and the $300,000+ Rolls Royce Cullinan.
