Taking your eyes off the road for whatever reason can have very serious repercussions, especially if your car is drifting towards multiple obstacles and shows no signs of slowing down.
This crash, according to the description, took place in Cairns, Queensland, Australia, and the driver claims to have fallen asleep at the wheel. Thankfully, he managed to exit the vehicle on his own without any significant injuries.
Backing the driver’s claim that he dozed off is the way the car simply drove directly into that stop light enclosure without slowing down at all. So, unless he was really focused on which emoticon to use for a text message, then his eyes were probably closed.
In a way, it’s a good thing that the car was stopped in its tracks by the enclosure and the curb surrounding it, otherwise it might have driven directly into the dashcam vehicle, or any other vehicle standing in its path. Still, having your car flip over under such circumstances does seem a little harsh, although similar incidents have been known to happen due to much less forceful impacts.
What you can do in order to prevent such things is to always keep yourself well-rested before getting behind the wheel of your car – and stop and take a break if you ever feel the slightest hint that you’re just too tired to continue driving.
