Ford has revealed that it has no intention of launching right-hand drive variants of the 2020 Bronco and upcoming ‘baby’ Bronco.
Speaking with Australian publication Car Sales, Ford Australia boss Kay Hart said there are no plans for right-hand drive versions of the two off-roaders because of the local popularity of the Ranger.
“There’s nothing to announce. There are currently no plans in place for right-hand drive Bronco.
“Clearly it’s going to be a great vehicle, but we are extremely happy with the performance of Ranger here,” Hart said.
“That’s not to say we don’t continually look at other products within Ford, but Ranger is doing such a fantastic job here. We’re happy with the line-up as it stands, but that’s not to say we wouldn’t look to add to the range in future.”
What’s particularly disappointing about this news for customers in right-hand drive markets is that Ford certainly has the ability to build a RHD Bronco. After all, it is underpinned by the same T6 latter frame as the Ranger and Everest, both of which are sold in left- and right-hand drive configurations.
As for the baby Bronco, it is expected to hit the market before 2023 and will look to snatch sales away from Jeep. Like the United States, many right-hand drive markets, including Australia, have a strong love for SUVs, particularly those with an off-road focus.
Despite this, Hart said there are no plans for a right-hand drive baby Bronco. Those in right-hand drive markets will just have to make do with the Ranger.
