We really hate seeing these types of incidents, and not just because they’re very dangerous due to the high speed nature of drag racing.
The fact that engines can give up the ghost, leading to a high-speed accident with little to no room to speak of, is something we’ve seen too many times.
That’s exactly what happened in this incident. Once the car launched, it only got about midway through the drag strip before fluids burst from underneath the body that’s visible at precisely the 0:14 second mark. A split second later, the American sports car went up in flames and snapped directly into the wall, before bouncing off and hitting the opposite side of the strip.
After finally coming to a halt, the driver can be seen exiting the vehicle and running away. He also appears to be limping, but that’s understandable given the severity of the accident.
All things considered, the fact that these types of crashes keep happening is by no means surprising. Not all cars are built for the outright strain of doing fast 1/4 mile runs. And even if they are, you never know when something goes wrong.
