VW Opens The Order Books For New T-Cross Small SUV In Europe

Volkswagen has opened the order books for its new T-Cross baby SUV in Europe, which aims straight at small families and younger customers.

The new VW T-Cross is available to order with the 1.0-liter TSI engine in two configurations: 93hp (95PS) with a five-speed manual or 113hp (115PS) with a six-speed manual transmission. The latter can be optioned with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission while both engine options come fitted with a gasoline particulate filter. Sadly, there’s no all-wheel drive option.

VW will also give customers the chance to secure one of the 200 limited “1^st Edition” models. The winners will be picked from a lottery, with the company planning a special handover event on April 12 at the Autostadt Wolfsburg.

Based on the same MQB-A0 architecture with the Polo, the new VW T-Cross is slightly bigger than the compact city car but features the same wheelbase. Compared to the bigger T-Roc, the T-Cross is 127mm shorter.

VW makes big claims about the new T-Cross’ practicality as its latest SUV features a sliding rear seat for more legroom or more luggage space and a higher seating position than the Polo. Boot volume is rated between 385lt to 455lt with the rear seats in their normal position.

The interior also features things like four USB ports, wireless charging, an eight-inch infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster and a more powerful ‘Beats’ sound system. Driver assistance systems include the Pedestrian Monitoring and City Emergency Braking, Lane Assist, Hill Start Assist, Blind Spot Monitor and more as standard.

Prices for the new 2019 VW T-Cross start from €17,975 ($20,400 in current exchange rates) in its home market in Germany.
