We admit that we had a pretty hard time distinguishing which model we’re looking at in this batch of spy shots, but we can now says that, unless we’re very much mistaken, this is the 2020MY, facelifted version of the Peugeot 3008.
You see, Peugeot is also working on the all-new 2008, which is expected to grow in size and share the same underpinnings with the DS3 Crossback, so initially with thought it might be it. However, the prototype in the spy shots is simply too big to be the new 2008.
Despite the heavy camouflage, the revamped 3008 is betrayed by its characteristic clamshell bonnet and side window lines and the rear lights – or what we can see of them anyway. Peugeot went into great lengths to hide the 3008’s revised front end with additional body cladding, while the rear end also appears to be significantly altered; the taillights are now slimmer and the tailgate appears to feature a cleaner design.
The yellow stickers and the flapless charging port also reveal that this test car features a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Peugeot has already revealed a 3008 Hybrid4, which combines a 197hp 1.6-liter turbo-four engine with two electric motors for a combined output of 296hp (300PS).
The Hybrid4 powertrain makes the French compact crossover all-wheel drive thanks to the rear-mounted electric motor. Peugeot said that the plug-in hybrid 3008 will arrive in the market in late 2019, leading us to believe that it’ll become available alongside the 2020MY model.
The interior is also expected to be upgraded in terms of on-board features, with a faster infotainment system with more connectivity options and a redesigned digital instrument cluster. The 3008 already has one of the most distinctive dashboards in the segment, which the French automaker calls the “i-Cockpit”.
Peugeot is expected to reveal the facelifted 3008 sometime at the second half of the year, with sales in Europe to start soon after.
