Compared to a stock early-90s Camaro, this Z/28 prototype built by Callaway Cars looks almost like an entirely different vehicle. On top of that, it has just 1,135 miles (1,826 km) on the clock.
Among its many accolades, the Callaway Camaro was featured nationwide at multiple car shows, such as the 1993 LA Auto Show, 1994 Chicago Auto Show, 1994 SEMA Show, 1994 Charlotte Auto Fair and the 1994 Moroso Speedway Super Chevy Show. It also made Motor Trend magazine’s cover in March of 1994.
Baddest or weirdest?
It was originally equipped with a black exterior and cloth black interior, before receiving the CamAerobody package painted in Metallic Silver, plus a new custom leather interior designed by leather craftsman Johann Merkhofer.
Other features include the Z/28 pack with LT-1 engine, Borg Warner T56 transmission, performance axle ratio, six-way driver power seat, power door locks, power windows, air conditioning, a premium sound system, and removable tinted roof panels (T-Top). Back in 1993, the sticker price for this spec was $50,624.
Callaway then fiddled with the engine, added the previously mentioned body kit, Brembo four-piston F40 front brakes with vented and crossed drilled rotors, stainless steel headers and exhaust, plus 17-inch OZ Italy Monte Carlo modular wheels with Pirelli PZero tires.
The end-result was a sleek bespoke Camaro C8 with 404 HP at its disposal, which would have been nothing to laugh at nearly three decades ago. Now, the prototype has found its way on eBay, where its original owner is asking for $33,000.
